The Child Care Diversity Project Funded by the Baxter Family Foundation since 1998 The Diversity Project’s mission is to inform the early care and education community of the unique experiences of biracial and multiethnic children and their families. Diversity specialists present at statewide and regional train-the-trainer workshops for local community colleges and will continue to conduct workshops in the early childhood education community. With the release of the video and Educator’s Guide titled, “Serving Biracial and Multiethnic Children and Their Families,” the project now offers a 30-minute video; an Educator’s Guide with activities, readings and resources; and a set of five, poster-sized Family Portraits offering welcoming and affirming images for multiracial children and families. Health and Safety Policies and Procedures for the Child Care Community (in development) This manual in print and digital format will enable child care programs to customize their own policies and procedures and help them provide the best possible care. An interactive CD, sample parent/staff handbook, training and technical assistance will be available to the child care community in Winter 2003-2004. The policies and procedures will be consistent with national recommended standards and licensing requirements in California. The interactive CD will allow center directors and family child care providers to tailor the manual to their specific needs, place their logo on it and tie it to their state's requirements. Areas covered include: Admissions and Enrollment, Record Keeping, Keeping Children Healthy, Assessing Children’s Healthy Development, Keeping Children Safe, Serving Healthy Meals, Keeping Staff Healthy, Assuring Healthy Working Conditions, Keeping Your Space Healthy and Safe, and Being Prepared. The handbook will contain handouts and sample forms which can also be customized for each program. Training and technical assistance will be available upon release of the package. A sample of the policies contained in the manual will soon be available on this site and by request.
